Ocho Locos Stable LLC
began in November 2002. The stable began by purchasing a horse
named Killer Angel for $100. Killer Angel had an ankle problem
and needed a lay-up of 6 months to recuperate. The stable we
purchased Killer from did not want to do the lay-up so 8 of us
purchased Killer Angel, bad ankle and all, and did the lay-up.
The stable name became Ocho Locos, for obvious reasons.
To fund the stable
each of us put in $1325 apiece to purchase Killer Angel, pay for the
lay-up and to train him back into racing shape.
Down to our last $2000
prior to his first race, Killer Angel rewarded us handsomely by
finishing in the money in his first three starts, before reeling off
two straight wins in open $16,000 claiming company at Laurel.
Killer was claimed out of his second winning race on Sept 11, 2003.
Through the almost 4
years of Ocho Locos Stable being in business, the members of the
stable never had to pay a cash call - the horses always managed to
pay for themselves.
Ocho Locos Stable
dissolved in August of 2006.
