The Pillar Stable LLC began in June of 2000. Thirteen members
pooled their money for a total of $15,000, to buy a racehorse.
Lil' Sidney was The Pillar's first claim for $10,000.
Sidney ran his first race for Pillar at Laurel and he came home a
winner!!!
The highlight of Pillar's racing career came when we claimed
Islander Blues for $14,500 at Laurel in October of 2000. IB
looked to be a hard knocking 5 yo mare and she had her N1X condition
intact. We ran IB in the N1X in Maryland a total of 7 times in
the next few months and she kept running 2nd and 3rd while rolling
up a nice bankroll with each ITM finish.
Soon after the claim, one member of the stable noticed IB was a
NYbred. Realizing that the winter meet at Aqueduct doesn't
always draw the best NYbred-restricted competition, we decided to
ship IB to Aqueduct to take a shot at the NYR N1X and the purse of
$43,000. IB dusted the field on April 12, 2001 to win by an
easy 4 lengths - payday!!!!
The Pillar Stable was profitable the first 3 years of operation.
Many of the members of the stable wanted to take profits out of the
stable instead of reinvesting those monies into another horse or
two. Eventually, we claimed Queen Twining and she drained the
stable's remaining cash reserves. The Pillar Stable LLC
dissolved in April of 2004.
