Comet Surprise - we claimed Comet at Delaware
Park for $5,000 on October 23, 2001. Comet won 7 races for Buffet
Table Stable LLC including an allowance race and the Final Leg of The Old
Man Winter Starter Handicap at Philadelphia Park on February 25, 2002.
We retired Comet in June of 2004 and he now resides on a farm in Maryland where he has
become a fox hunter.
Keeneland Trip
- we shipped Comet Surprise from Bowie to run at Keeneland Race Track in April of 2003 in a
Starter Allowance going 1 - 1/4 miles. It rained the day before the
race, the track didn't dry out. Comet loved the mud, he was a front runner and
we had the 4 hole with Pat "Wait All" Day sitting in post 2, so we
figured if he could get an easy relaxed lead, make them eat mud and then
have some horse left turning for home, we had a shot at getting a win photo
from Keeneland. But
Day gunned his mount, who had never run longer than 6
furlongs, to an opening quarter of 22.3. And just that fast, it was
over.
Itsadancing - the darndest things happen when
you are sitting at a bar!! After Linda and I tried to claim a horse one day,
Linda received a phone call from someone asking her if she wanted a horse.
After speaking to the caller for a few minutes, Linda turned to me and asked,
"Do we want a horse". Never one to look the gift horse in the
mouth, we accepted. Itsadancing was a yearling when we picked her
up and after letting her grow and getting her broke, she ran her first race
on March 4, 2005, finishing 5th.
Itsa wins!! - she broke her maiden at Colonial Downs on July 5, 2005.
Linda and I watched the race from Laurel instead of driving to Colonial.
It was a very funny race to watch. Itsa wasn't much of a horse (what
do you expect for free?) and turning for home, she looked like she was
giving it up bigtime. The camera focused in on the two leaders
coming down the stretch and, with Rodman calling only those two in their all
out driving for the wire, we hoped Itsa might hold on for third and pick up a check.
But at the last moment, here comes little Itsa rolling down the lane like a
monster!!! Needless to say, we were shocked!!!
